Fort Lauderdale is dense, older housing stock — a lot of 1950s and 60s concrete block homes with barrel tile roofs, and the tile is where the black algae shows first. On the east side near the Intracoastal, salt air and humidity together mean roofs and stucco go green faster than anywhere inland. West of I-95 it's more shingle and flat roofs, which need a different approach — low pressure on the shingle, and careful attention to flat roof drains so nothing pools while it's being rinsed. The condos and townhomes along the canals are steady work for us too: association boards want the buildings and walkways done on a schedule, and we set that up.
